10 Great Electric Car Models

From recycling to solar power, living green is going mainstream (sort of). Electric cars, unfortunately, are still pretty expensive. But for anyone with the funds or finance options, here are 10 of the best electric cars on the market.

Porsche Taycan

The Taycan has a distinctively sleek appearance, and it's not just for show. With its 600-hp engine, it can accelerate from zero to 60mph is less than half the time of the Kona. It also has super-fast charging, adding 60 miles to its range in about four minutes of charging time.

Tesla Model S

Tesla electric cars are some of the best-known on the market. But the price of a Tesla electric car can be off-putting (this model starting at $77,000). Still the Model S is frequently listed among the top ten electric cars available. And 400kW hours of free annual SuperCharger credits are included, cutting down on the cost of charging your electric car.

Tesla Model X

The Model X is Tesla's SUV-style electric car. It has a range of up to 295 miles, seating for seven, a panoramic windshield and super-cool falcon-wing rear doors (much like the DeLorean!). Predictably, though, this electric car has a Tesla price tag: $83,000-140,000.

Audi e-tron

This electric SUV is cheaper than the Tesla Model X, but it's also a little smaller — with room for just five and not seven. One little perk, however (if you like this kind of thing), is the integration of an on-board Amazon Alexa computer.

Hyundai Kona

The Kona is designed to resemble an SUV, at least at a glance. It has a total range of 258 miles on a full charge and roughly 125 miles on a 30-minute quick charge. And its 201-hp motor allows it to accelerate from zero to 60mph in under eight seconds.

Chevrolet Bolt

The key to the Bolt's appeal is affordability. With federal tax credit for electric vehicles, it has a starting price of about $30,000. So don't expect many luxurious extras, but do expect to drive 238 miles on a single charge.

Nissan Leaf e+

Nissan's Leaf e+ is in the same class as the Kona and Bolt, at least with regard to range (226 miles) and power (215hp). But it can also double as a generator for your home thanks to a two-way power flow through the 62 kWh battery.

Jaguar I-PACE

Like Tesla models, Jaguar's I-PACE is intended as a luxury car. However, with prices starting at around $70,000, it's usually a little bit cheaper. It has a relatively modest range of 234 miles, but it comes with 1,000 kWh of free charges at Electrify America (just under 3,000 miles' worth).

Volkswagen e-Golf

Fans of the VW Golf will be thrilled to see an electric version on the market. And they'll also be thrilled to know that it feels much the same as the regular model, with seating for five, cargo versatility and a "regular car" driving experience. One downside, though, is that it only manages 125 miles on a charge.

BMW i3

BMW's i3 has a striking carbon fiber and aluminum chassis with two-tone paint job options. ACC0rding to the manufacturer, it is the most sustainable of all cars, electric or otherwise. The factory it's made in, for instance, is emissions-free, while the car itself incorporates eco-friendly materials like eucalyptus (trim) and olive leaf extract (leather tanning). It's not great for long-distance use, though, only managing 114 miles per charge (or 180 with a range extender).
